Berwin Turlach , Co-chair

Berwin Turlach is Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia, having previously worked at the Australian National University, the University of Adelaide and the National University of Singapore. He received a degree as Diplom–Mathematiker from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1991, and his Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies en mathématique and Docteur en Statistique from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 1992 and 1994, respectively. His research interests include nonparametric smoothing methods, computational statistics and applied statistics.
Beatrix Jones, Co-chair

Beatrix Jones is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. Her research interests are in statistical methodologies for high dimensional data, particularly measurements of the diet and metabolome. She is a past-secretary of the New Zealand Statistical Association and a board member for the International Society for Bayesian Analysis, as well as an associate editor for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics.
Peter Baker

Dr Peter Baker is a Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics at the School of Public Health, University of Queensland where he also acts as a senior statistical collaborator and adviser to several research projects in the Faculty of Medicine. Peter has worked as a statistical consultant and researcher in areas such as agricultural research, Bayesian methods for genetics, health, medical and epidemiological studies for thirty years. He is Past President of the Queensland Branch and is also Media & Communications Chair, Statistical Society of Australia.
Raaj Biswas
Statistical Society of Australia
Raaj Kishore Biswas is a Scientia PhD Scholar at the Transport and Road Safety (TARS) Research Centre in University of New South Wales. He works with naturalistic driving studies to assess the risk associated with everyday driving in Australia. His research interests include biostatistics, social aspects of public health and road safety. He is the chair of the Young Statisticians Network of the Statistical Society of Australia.
Kristen Stone
Kristen Stone is a Program Manager at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with responsibility for the development of new statistical methods for the production of official statistics. Her branch has a focus on developing methods in the fields of data linking, confidentiality, data science, complex modelling and data visualisation. She is passionate about strengthening partnerships between the ABS and other statistical and public sector organisations to build methodological capability and enhance the statistics which inform Australia’s important decisions.

Sybille McKeown
Statistical Society of Australia
Sybille McKeown is a Program Manager at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with responsibility for developing and deploying statistical methodologies that underpin ABS transformation objectives and enable delivery of new statistical solutions. She is passionate about building methodological capability required for the ABS to take advantage of opportunities, such as advances in technology, big data, and use of administrative information for statistical purposes.
